In Defense of Childhood Conference – March 10th

This coming Saturday proves to be an outstanding and inspiring opportunity for early childhood educators and parents who can make their way to the In Defense of Childhood Conference in NYC…

IN DEFENSE OF CHILDHOOD:
Keeping the Joy of Learning Alive
A Conference for Educators and Parents

Saturday, March 10, 2012, 9am-4:30pm

The Great Hall (in Shepard Hall)
The City College of New York
Beverly Falk and William Crain, Conference Co-Conveners

I remember leaving last year’s conference bursting with inspiration, information and a renewed commitment to preserving what we know is best for young children. This year’s keynote speaker is Nancy Carlsson-Paige, Ed.D., author of Taking Back Childhood: A Proven Road Map for Raising Confident, Creative, Compassionate Kids. If you have never heard Carlsson-Paige speak, that is reason enough to attend the conference. Nancy is a true champion of young children and early childhood educators. In the daunting and often depressing face of high-stakes testing, the current corporate takeover of childhood and all pressures that are working against parents and teachers, Nancy has the ability to weave together relevant research, potent facts and poignant stories with an empowering voice that reminds us what is possible. She is also a senior adviser to the nonprofit project Defending the Early Years.

Take a moment to review the amazing list of breakout sessions, and the supporting organizations:

Alliance for Childhood, American Museum of Natural History, Bank Street College of EducationBronx Community Charter SchoolChild Care Council at CUNY, Child Development Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, City College Child Development Center, Community Playthings, Democracy Inquiry Group of New England, Flashlight Press, Manhattan Country School, New York City Early Childhood Professional Development Institute of CUNY, SciPlay Center of the New York Hall of Science, and the UFT Teacher Center.

Admission to the conference is free, however you do need to register. This conference is truly a gift. Hope to see you there!
